FLEA CONTROL

Do you and your pets have problems with Fleas in your home and yard? Follow our directions below to keep these bothersome pests under control.

The most common Flea in and around the home is the Cat Flea, Ctenocephacides Felis. Despite its name, the cat Flea finds dog and humans quite tasty. Flea bites cause irritation, but also serious allergies in some animal and humans.

Adult Fleas spend most of their time on an animal’s body. Getting those little pests off of your animal and out of your house and yard requires a little extra work. It does little good to treat your house and leave the yard untreated, or to bathe the dog and leave the car that he rides in untouched. It is better to dedicate one day every two weeks for a month or so to eradicate them. Remember that on and off, half hearted measures don’t work.  Then you can go to one day every two or three months for a maintenance program.

To get started brush your cat or dog. Give him a bath with dog shampoo. In 24 hours you can apply insecticides like frontline, (topically or Flea powders, dusts, sprays or foam. Dips are also available. Flea Collars should not be used as the sole source of Flea control. All pets must be treated. Vacuum carpets, floors and furniture frequently.

Treat outside where your pet (dog or cat) rests or sleeps and plays. Wash all bedding where pets stay. There are many products like Sevin dust that you can use to dust the yard and your pet, but don’t mix products. Outdoor cleanup is essential before you treat the premises. For indoor treatment your best bet is to use Flea foggers or bombs.

So clean the pet (dog or cat), clean the yard and treat with insecticide. Clean and vacuum your home until these pests are under control. Then every 2 or 3 months do it all again to maintain your Flea Free surroundings.

If your pet eats a Flea it will likely cause a tapeworm, so it is also a good idea to worm your pets as you rid your home and yard premises of Fleas.

L.A. Hearne Company has everything you need to give your pet and yourself a healthy and FLEA-FREE environment. We will be glad to assist you to select the best products for your particular circumstance.
